Religion in Media

According to The Case for Covering Religion, “Covering religion in the media is a smart idea”. The purpose of this particular article on the Religion Writers’ website is to persuade the reader that religion coverage in the media is not always a bad thing. Statistics show that generally viewers do not like religion news. The author suggests that the reason some people are opposed to this is because of the way it is presented. The wording is usually biased which discourages many readers and listeners. Perhaps if the information was presented in a more general or impartial way it would be better received. This article uses a variety of methods to get information to the reader. Visually, there are 6 obvious main points within the source which help the reader concentrate on one specific topic at a time. These focus points are easy to pick out because of the bold font. Also, the wording is easy to read. It uses everyday language that helps the reader focus and comprehend the material. Each topic presented within the 6 focus points is relatable to everyday life. By using statistics from polls and interviews, the author of this article created a relationship between the reader and the information presented. Current events are also present. It uses examples of popular religious news stories such as war, terrorism, education, and healthcare. Most readers are able to personally identify with these topics. When emotions are involved, a person is much more likely to have a connection to whatever is being said. Overall, this article persuades its reader to accept religion in the media by including reliable statistics, current events, and relatable topics.

  1. If religion was presented biasly I wouldn't be one of those people that don't like hearing about it. Of course talking about their beliefs dispassionately is a somewhat tough task to do...

  2. I was able to get a very clear picture of what the article you found was trying to persuade its readers to believe. It seems as though the information was presented in a very clear and consise way that made it very easy for people to relate to it and to understand the point it was trying to make. The niformation presented was also supported by statistics and current events which made for a very compelling article.

  3. I think it would be virtually impossible to talk about religion completely passionately without any bias. Your source sounds like its information is presented well, and it uses pathos to convince the reader of its point. Also, try breaking it up into two or more paragraphs so the blog is easier to read.
